DECEMBER 4
- FEAST DAY OF
- ST. BARBARA
|
St. Barbara was young lady of great intelligence and beauty whose father, a pagan ruler, did not approve of the Christian Faith.
She, however, believed in Christ and was baptized. He father was so enraged he demanded that she denounce her new faith, which she refused to do. After much persecution, she left her home to seek refuge elsewhere. Her father, together with his Roman soldiers pursued and captured her. Again, she defied her father and refused to deny her Faith, so he beheaded her!
St. Barbara's martyrdom is considered by the Church to be the Patron Saint against sudden death, of artillerymen in the Armed Forces and for all those engaged in hazardous occupations. |
