AUGUST 1ST - 15TH DEVOTIONS IN HONOR OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

- THE DORMITION (FALLING ASLEEP) OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY.

The Orthodox Christian Church has set four major feast days for the Mother of God, Mary, They are as follows:
1. The Nativity of the Virgin Mary on September 8th
2. The Presentation of Mary on November 21st
3. The Annunciation of Mary on March 25
4. The Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary August 15th.
The Dormition Feast Day is observed by a period of 15 days of prayer and fasting and penance ending with the receiving of Holy Communion August 15th.
(Names celebrated on this day are: Panagiotis, Panagiota, Despina, Maria).
