JULY 26
- FEAST DAY OF
- ST. PARASKEVI
|
The pious Paraskevi emerges as one of the brightest of saints. She was born on FRIDAY (Paraskevi), therefore she was named after the day. After the death of her parents who left her very wealthy, she disposed of all of it and became a Christian.
For punishment the pagan Ruler forced Paraskevi to step into boiling oil, but she stepped out of it without as much as a blister. When the Ruler suggested that the oil was not enough, Paraskevi dipped her fingers into the boiling oil and tossed it into his face. The Emperor fell to the floor screaming, blinded by the scalding liquid. Paraskevi called upon the power of the Lord to restore the king's sight and for this miracle, Paraskevi was set free.
St. Paraskevi is the Patron Saint of the blind.
